flying whilst pregnant??

just wondering if anyone can tell me roughly whats the earliest and the latest that you should be flying if you are pregnant???

Obviously, your pediatrician has the last say, but also check with the airline you intend to use because they will all have differing policies, primarily concerning late pregnancy though...

Many airline companies allow expectant mothers to fly without a doctor's certificate up to the 28th week of their pregnancy. From 28-36 weeks a doctor's certificate is needed to show that the expectant mum is fit enough to fly. Most companies will not allow woman to fly after the 36th week.

One thing I would say that isn't mentioned though is that you shouldn't go in unpressurised planes (like the little ones that can take you between Greek islands etc) because they're not safe - something to do with less oxygen supply I think. May as well go while you still can without lugging lots of baby gear around!

The earliest would have to be while joining the mile hi club and the latest is usually around 36 weeks but can be later with accompanying letter from your doc/ midwife.

Actually, flight in smaller unpressurized aircraft provides more oxygen for passengers than flight in pressurized jet aircraft, in most cases.  The smaller aircraft usually fly below 3,000 to 5,000 feet above mean sea level (MSL) in the area you describe, secretspirit, while the cabin equivalent altitude in jets at, say 35,000 feet, is near 8,000 feet depending on the aircraft.  So one would actually have more oxygen than in the larger aircraft...

Incidently... the RAF dont let female aircrew fly at all (on large passenger ac, jets or helos) as soon as they find out they are pregnant. Hard to keep that quiet!
They dont have a specific reason for being so early but safety first!
