then you'll probably be doing it from the south rim, the much more touristy side and warmer too. I did it in February; the weather was mild but cool, cloudy, a bit of snow on the ground. I believe it can be stormy, though, so it's not necessarily the ideal time.
Thanks stoofur. I didn`t go in the end because we got so late into Phoenix it was too late to book anything. Did your boss come back on a Phoenix flight? He might have been with me (got back this afternoonn)
Hello SJ,
My boss flew back on Friday night. That would have been quite a coincidence! He was also staying in Phoenix. Apparently they did go to the Grand Canyon and it was a bit of a drive. They also had trouble finding it (yes the biggest hole in the world)! Apparently on the way they were driving through hot desert and then they drove up a mountain to 6000 ft. At the top of the mountain there was about a foot of snow! Very strange driving through desert and then through snow. They finally got to the Grand Canyon where there was snow still. Hope you had a good trip. Maybe next time you will get to see it.
I went down on a burro and camped overnight at the bottom by the Colorado. Absolutely fabulous. I think's it's one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.
stoofur, I don`t know which airline your boss flew with but if it was the same as me, he would have been pretty delayed friday night as that`s the aircraft we went into Phoenix with, with a 3 hour technical delay.
lardhelmet, where did you get your name from? I can`t decide whether I think it`s rude or not :-)
