Hi, do you have to pay for a tourist visa, www.immi.gov.au indicates that you do, also the ETA website $20, but I hear from friends that they didn't pay. Does anyone have recent experience?

There is no visa application charge for ETA however a service charge of $20 applies.

Other types of tourist visa are available which incur no charges.

You do not want an ETA - they are not for European citizens but for Americans and others. They are $20 though.

You want an e-visitor - also accessible on the www.immi.gov.au site. They are free.

Thanks guys, dzug2 - have you applied and used an evisitor visa?
No - last time I went it was still ETAs for all and the time before that you didn't need any sort of visa. Which will probably tell someone how long ago that was......

But the process is the same as the ETA - just no money involved.
