Public transport with a toddler

We are going to Lake Garda this summer. My daughter and grandson will fly there and will need to use public transport e.g. buses, trains and taxis.

What is the safest way for a toddler to travel in these vehicles bearing in mind there won't be safety belts or restraints?

On a seat, I would think. Standing might be tricky for them if it's crowded.

sit down grip your child but no seatbelts or restraints = problems because even if she falls holding him she may fall on him which is a scary thought personally dont take little uns on adventures unless they can atleast grip something and stand up maybe from 7yrs up.

Taxis will have seat belts so I suppose you could bring the car seat.

Trains don't usually accelerate or slow down too quickly. Whatabout those reign things I used to see. Back in the day.
