Depends what you want from the trip?
Hotel and beach holiday only - A.I
Some trips out during the day - H/B
Total independence, hire car, local resturants/culture etc... - Room only
I like HB, then you dont always feel like you have to be back at the hotel for lunch, you can go out and explore a bit - with breakfast and tea catered for back at the hotel.
However, have done A.I when further a field such as Carribean and really enjoyed that too. All you can eat and drink - oohh bring it on!

It depends where you are staying. If you are in the middle of nowhere and you don`t drink then I would say full board. If you drink and are in the middle of nowhere then go all inclusive. If I stay somewhere where there are a lot of bars and restaurants around I would only do B&B because I love to go to different places to eat every night. All inclusive can get very boring.
Lots of good answers here and one other thing to bear in mind is do you have children. AI is good if you do as you stop the I Want a drink or I Want something to eat as they can just go up and get it. As my boys are grown up now I prefer the Half Board option. 2 good meals a day, get a snack lunchtime if needed and go where you want for enterainment in the evenings. I also go out for meals in the evenings sometimes for a change from what the hotel has on offer.
Thanks everyone great replies I am undecided still but like you say shedman the kids are currently eating me out of house and home, they are preteens and cost a fortune when out!
Jno my personal choice would be all those lovely tapas bars and paella and lovely little restaurants but 2 kids on a budget it's not going to happen as much as I would like sadly.
Anyway roll on summer it's all I can think of x

I think probably with kids the AI option is better financially. We did this in the Dom Rep last year for the first time but we never left the resort. We did get a little bored but on the plus side it was great to eat and drink as much as you wanted when you wanted. The kids loved going to the bar and the buffet themselves too. Having said that if you are in a busy resort then I would go half board as you are then free to explore and have drinks and meals out of the hotel.
