So the Queen is to make a state visit to Ireland, what can be gained by this, both from Ireland's point of view also England's?

The visit will cost Ireland millions both in organisation and security, at a time when they can least afford it.

Or could it be because only at the end of last year the UK offered the Irish government a £3bn bi-lateral loan as part of Ireland's international bail-out.

She's been in Eire many times buying horses. This is the first state visit. I'm sure most will make her welcome.

I think its a good thing its shows times have changed although not all of my friends share the same view,It will annoy the hell out of Gerry Adams and thats a good thing,Dont think I would go to see her myself but there will be plenty that will hopefully the majority will welcome her.

The Queen is visiting Ireland at the invitation of the President. The visit will not annoy Gerry Adams, only a handful of neanderthals.
The Queen visited Northern ireland several times during the troubles. Security wasn't the show-stopper for previous state visits. It was simply never deemed "appropriate"
By the way I don;t know for certain, but I am fairly sure she has never set foot in Ireland. I think we would have heard about it ...
