Standing proudly over Northumberland's finest beaches and surrounded by heather clad hills and wooded valleys, Bamburgh has long drawn the tourist, historian and casual visitor alike. Almost entirely intact it reflects a glorious if unsettled past in an area which triggers the imaginations of young and old.

The village itself is full with quaint shops, cafes as well as the Grace Darling Museum memorial, which is packed with history and fantastic structural design. Looking up at the spectacular site from the village you can see why it is one of England’s most famous castles, and has recently become a stunning location for weddings.

The spectacular beach makes a perfect setting for walking, cycling and horse riding. The golden sands extend at low tide all the way to Seahouses and Budle Bay - a haven for birdwatchers with many species of wading birds to be seen.

In recent times, the Bamburgh Project has set about restoring the building, concentrating on the fortress site and the early medieval burial ground at the Bowl Hole. Visitors can explore the castle seven days a week between March and October, though there is a fee to enter and the building is also licensed for civil weddings so visitors must expect areas to be closed off for short periods of time to cater for these events.

The castle is located right next to a beautiful and often quiet beach, making it the perfect day out for people looking to stroll along a stunning beach and take in the scenery on offer as well as beach lovers looking to soak up the sun while relaxing on the golden sandy beach.

Bamburgh Castle located 42 miles north of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 20 miles south of Berwick-upon-Tweed and six miles east of Belford.
