Hotels in Egypt, Turkey and Morocco are expected to enjoy increased bookings over the next year as the countries emerge as some of the hottest holiday destinations for 2010.
According to ABTA – The Travel Association, the countries' investment in luxury hotels and infrastructure such as better airports and roads will lure holidaymakers looking for premium, value for money, breaks. The destinations' projections are contained in the ABTA Travel Trends Report, which suggested that 'X-factor' destinations will dominate the 2010 travel habits across the world.
Demand for hotels in Istanbul is expected to soar as the Turkish city attracts holidaymakers with its new status as the European City of Culture for the year 2010, the report stated. A representative from ABTA said: "This year has been remarkably resilient for the travel industry, and prospects are looking good for 2010, with the trend to more adventurous destinations continuing.
"However, regardless of the destination, a holiday could be remembered for the wrong reasons if travellers fail to check Foreign Office advice before heading off on their adventures."
Those planning to book hotels in these destinations and others further afield have been advised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to research the cultures and laws of the places they are heading to in order to avoid trouble.
"It is important to familiarise yourself with the local laws and customs of a country," said a director of consular services at the FCO.
"The situation in some of these countries also changes regularly - so ensure you check the FCO website before you go and take out comprehensive travel insurance.”
