Club 18-30 Is Still Going Strong
The travel company Thomas Cook is the firm primarily responsible for the coining of the term 18-30 holiday. The phenomenon began in the 1970s when the firm began taking young people to Spanish towns and has now grown to incorporate many destinations on the continent.
Since then many resorts have cashed in on the huge market for people who want to holiday without children. The traditional theme is sun, sea, sand and sangria. And in fact there are many Mediterranean destinations which are famous for their night life and vibrant atmosphere. However, in more recent years this choice has widened to include places outside Europe.
Traditional Club 18-30 Destinations:
• Ibiza is still one of the most popular places to go, due to its world-renowned nightclubs and sandy beaches. Also Mallorca and Lanzarote are famed for their nightlife.
• Playa de Las Americas is another resort to consider, located in Tenerife. Gran Canaria is another well-liked Canaries destination.
• Greece also plays host to a number of 18-30 destinations, including Zante, Kos, Corfu and Crete.
• Rhodes, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Turkey have many resorts tailor made for young people.
• Egypt is a resort opened in more recent times which is slightly more exotic than its European cousins. Camel rides, quad biking and going on safari are among the holiday activities available here for fun-seeking travellers.
Most summer resorts offer many varied entertainments to attract young people. Fashions change from year to year but many of the more popular activities are always available.
These include:
• Water sports – water skiing, scuba diving (including training), wind surfing, snorkelling, sailing to name but a few.
• Guided tours – many destinations offer personalised tours of historic and places of interest in the nearby area.
• Swimming pools – most hotel complexes have their own pools despite many of them being very close to the beach.
• Night clubs – many of the hotels now have their own clubs as well as those in the towns.
