Dubai is a city of contrast, from the super rich to the super poor, so much so that you are unlikely to see a place where the divide between the have not’s and the have yachts is so apparent. This city is said to be fast becoming the Paris of the Middle East with a diverse and rich society; providing an insight into the future of cities all over the world.
Discover Dubai:
Think lush championship golf courses in the desert, massive manmade islands in the shape of the world and ski slopes in one of the most arid corners of the planet. Dubai seems to know no end to its ambition, nor does it have any inhibitions.
Shopping has been described by some people (mainly men) as being a sport, so ladies get ready, get set, go and spend money and time in the shopping capital of the Middle East. Part of the appeal of Dubai as the destination for serious shopaholics is the lack of taxes and duty, which can make a good deal truly a bargain. Dubai's malls are glossy, air-conditioned (sometimes too well air-conditioned; so bring a jacket) and often feature extras like fountains, eateries and marble floors. As if this wasn't enough, the annual Dubai Shopping Festival, which usually takes place in January, sees further discounts on goods. So when planning a trip to Dubai you could time it just right to pick up a bargain or two. If so you may want to bring a bigger suitcase to fit all your purchases in on your return trip.
If you want a glimpse of the real Dubai, you should head to the souks, traditional Arabic market places. You will be dazzled by the amount of gold on show. There are other things for sale, as well as gold, but it is the eye-caching metal that leaves the lasting impression on visitors.
Dubai is a land of sun and sand, so beaches form the most attractive part of its beauty. The city’s main beaches consist of the long stretch of Jumeirah Beach Park and the Al Mazmar Beach Park which is an artificial park come beachfront. You can enjoy lazing out at the beach, surfing the waters or revelling in an adrenaline rush from water sports. The best time to go to the scorching hot city is during its cooler months, i.e. in between November and April, when the hot sun is at a bit of a rest and cool winds are blowing in the evenings and night time. However, if you choose to go over in the warmer months then the great selection of air conditioned hotels are sure to keep you cool while the blazing sun beats down ready to sizzle you once you step outside.
Enjoy the Delights of Dubai:
Known as the entertainment hub of the Middle East, Dubai acts as a magnet for wealthy party lovers who enjoy the bars and clubs in the city. There is no specific nightlife district, as many of the best bars are in the big tourist hotels, which are situated throughout the city. Many of these are open until 1-2am. However a cheaper and livelier option are the independent bars that are dotted around town, if you don’t mind a bit of walking to seek them out. Happy hours are common, with Thursdays and Saturdays the biggest nights for going out. And Tuesdays and Sundays are often ’Ladies Night’, with ladies receiving free drinks.
If you want to sample what the local cuisine has to offer you will be spoilt for choice. You can opt for dinner at the Verre- Gordon Ramsay’s Dubai venture, which has proved a resounding success and is firmly established as the best place to eat in the city. If you want a trendy restaurant, but without the high price tag, you could sample the delights of the Da Vinci’s Restaurant which offers an unpretentious setting and menu- you are guaranteed to find something to your liking.
Walk round and explore the beauty and spectacles that Dubai has to offer while enjoying the energy and spirit of the vibrant, cosmopolitan city.
