Other Brits Biggest Holiday Hate Says Brits
Everyone looks forward to going away but there are a thousand things that can spoil our perfect break. Apparently one of our most annoying problems is other British people while we are on holiday.
British holiday makers are frequently left disappointed by summer holidays as ‘disasters and irritants’ such as sunburn, missed flights and ‘other British holidaymakers’ ruin what should be the best two weeks of the year.
Over eight out of ten holidaymakers have experienced at least one ‘disaster’ whilst on holiday, over half have experienced flight delays or cancellations, nearly four in ten have suffered from sunburn or sunstroke and almost a fifth have fallen ill whilst away.
Among all the things that the stereotypical Briton is said to find hard to deal with on holiday – unfamiliar food, languages and local liquors – we find other Brits the worst. So much do we hate meeting our country men and women abroad that it only rated behind delayed and cancelled flights as an irritation.
Almost two fifths said that other Britons on holiday are annoying, while nearly half said that delayed flights were their top hate. Over-aggressive touts attempting to persuade you of the merits of their bar/restaurant/boat trip were the third biggest peeve.
Around four-fifths of holidaymakers added that they had experienced a holiday bad enough to qualify as a "disaster", said the survey commissioned by a leading high street bank.
"For most of us being stuck at an airport suffering from sunburn, whilst watching an empty luggage carousel with hundreds of other British holidaymakers is a vision of hell that we could all do without," said a spokesman for the firm.
While having your compatriots around is not the type of thing you can insure against, travel insurance can help with most other holiday disasters.
