MOST people know there's a list somewhere and can usually get the Pyramids right.

But few know the exact Seven Wonders of the World and their location.

It was essential knowledge in any good history exam a few years ago but times have changed, and the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World are in danger of being forgotten.

The first list was compiled around the Second Century BC and the first evidence of an idea for a list was found in the History of Herodotus.

Decades later, Greek historians wrote about the greatest monuments ever built and the final list, as follows, was completed in the Middle Ages:

1. The Pyramids of Egypt, Gaza
2. Hanging Gardens of Babylon
3. Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
4. Statue of Zeus at Olympia
5. Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
5. Colossus of Rhodes
7. The Lighthouse of Alexandria

Six out of the seven Ancient Wonders of the Worlddid not survive, and only the Pyramids are still standing. Have you been there What did you think Can you still see the capture the beauty of Ephesus on one of the many day trips running in Turkey or see the fallen majesty of the Colossus of Rhodes on the popular island

Human imagination urged poets, writers and historians to seek replacements outside Greece and Turkey. Others argued ancient civilisations which the Greeks did not know of also produced monuments which should have been included, such as the Great Wall of China and the Temple of Angkor in Cambodia.
But what about the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Leaning Tower of Pisa Why weren't they included Experts argue they just came too late to be considered.

What ,if any ,of today's structures will stand the test of time

The Modern Wonders of the World, according to World Book Encyclopedia, include:

1. The Channel Tunnel
2. CN Tower in Toronto
3. The Empire State Building in NY
4. Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco
5. Sydney Opera House
