Terrifying freak storm ..........
Well in Leicestershire this afternoon we have experienced a storm like no other - one of almost biblical proportions! It started with a sky so dark, it reminded me of the total eclipse we had about 15 yrs ago when day turned to night! Then it started .........The hailstones were as big as golf balls and kept crashing against all the house windows I was quite sure they would break .... my brother was driving on the outskirts of town at the time and just had to pull in a layby, the hail dented his car, broke his front light and at least 5 birds dropped from the sky into the road killed by the hailstones I presume. A tree also fell onto a car in our town.
Our neighbours were not as lucky as us - carports shattered, and windscreens gone. Our street, on a hill, was flowing like a river with ice floating on top, my window boxes were full of water and all my bedding plants submerged and my patio was flooded.
Just as it all calmed down it started again and we had a repeat performance, I was really shaking with fright! Have never experienced anything like it before or want to again ...............like the end of the world :( thank goodness its passed and the sun is shining again and we are safe!

I work in a Retail Park and half a dozen stores evacuated Customers AND Staff and a member of Staff in HMV was hit by a piece of falling roof - couldn't cope with the weight of the rain. Wanna see the Geordies taking a pounding? Thought so...

I live near York and I've been excitedly waiting for these storms all day. We've not had a single rumble of thunder or flash of lightning and as I stare out into this lovely warm evening I have to admit, I'm disappointed.
I feel for those badly affected, don't get me wrong, but I just love thunderstorms.

The peculiar thing was mojo, we didn't get that much thunder and spectacular lightning, just low rumbles and one loud crack right overhead, and a few flashes. It was the hail that was the most scary thing of the storm and the sheer volume of water. Heard tonight Loughborough had really bad flash floods late afternoon trapping people in their offices!

ooo ya bugger ahhhhh. Ay oop.
My first time asking for a cob up here they looked at me like I was from space, so I improvised.
I seem to remember saying, "I dunno, a balmcake, a breadcake, a bap...it's round and made of bread. Can you put some ham in it please!". I love some of the differences in food here. The fish and chips are WAY better (no skin for a start) but you try finding a lamb kebab or an orange coloured chicken tikka!
You can buy crusty cobs in the supermarkets but Tesco ought to be ashamed of themselves.
