...of the US...and it looks huge. Just heard about this from my brother....wonder if we'll be getting any of the wind and rain coming this way?

We've been hearing about this for a few days on the UK News, it says the east coast of the US is stockpiling sandbags and food.
Yes, but it's a TS not a hurricane, as long as it doesn't become jammed, as T-Storm Alison did in SE Texas in 01

That's what I get for not listening to the news the past few days. It looks like a monster. My brother expects to be without power for a while....hope not.

In spite of being a TS-it's still expected to be quite powerful.
This seems quite late in the season for storms of this sort.
From the BBC website:

Sandy weakened as a tropical storm but quickly regained strength with maximum sustained winds of 75mph (120km/h).

It is now a category-one hurricane and expected to hit the US late on Monday.
Just read on the news that there is a tsunami off the west coast of Canada.
An animation of the radar pictures shows that storm to be slowly heading north not east so unlikely to have much effect over here in the UK.
