I've heard a few people say lately that we are apparently in for a bad winter? Has anyone else heard if this is the case?

Might need to get more prepared than usual if so.

Hope everyone's having a good day :)

No, I haven`t heard that but they do say that if you have snow in November, you`ll have a bad winter and the UK did have some. I think it was a flash in the pan though. I don`t think anyone can predict that far forward TBH.
I think it is said every year, I would take normal precautions and be aware and keep an eye on forecasts.
Ratter - do you remember that guy that used to predict the weather? His predictions were in the Journal. Tanton was the name. His predictions could be quite accurate.
Wouldn't take a lot of notice of some forecasters though.Seem like big variations between local and national forecasts on T.V.
I've heard the rumours. Strange though that they can predict a supposedly record breaking winter yet were unable to do so for the drought in May, June nor the subsequent record breaking rainfall that followed.
How odd!
I'll take any long range weather forecast with the obligatory handful of salt.
237SJ No I cant say I remember him, Im from South Devon so not really a North Devon man. I assume this is the guy of which you speak: http://www.thisisnorthdevon.co.uk/councillor-weatherman-Tanton-died/story-12152500-detail/story.html
Yes, that`s him Ratter. I remember in June 1983 he said we`d have 10 weeks of sunshine and that`s exactly what we got.
Heard on the news this weeks that we're to have the worst winter for 100 years, if it's the same as the best summer for years we were supposed to have I wouldn't worry.
And there I thought you were a Holsworthy and environs man, ratter......

Sounds like a wait and see then. Transport wise I'm quite lucky being in a city but arthritis wise I've been having more mobilty issues than normal and am a bit cautious if it goes snowy/icy - albeit I love seeing snow come down when it's all pretty.
We tend to get a run of mild winters followed by harsher ones and we have had a couple of colder than average in the last few years. I think the only thing we can be fairly sure of though is the tendency towards greater extremes of weather which may have something to do with climate change.
I like the snow too. I don`t think I saw any last winter. Snow`s terribly disruptive in my job though. It nearly scuppered my Christmas two years ago.
And now they`re playing Last Christmas by Wham on the radio. A tad early I think.
Oops, just remembered I did see snow. And what a nightmare that was! Maybe I don`t want to see any after all.
Had to dig a foot of snow out this morn.
I hope that's a joke owd!
DT, I was born and bred in Dawlish, South Devon. I lived in South Molton and Burrington for a while then to Northam where I live now and hope to move away to Wales in the next few months.
