If all weather forecasts rely on data provided by the met office, why can different TV channels' forecasts be so different?

It depends on each forcasters interpretation.

I forget his name now but a weather forcaster in Plymouth once explained why he was always right, which he was in the 5 years I was there. He said he was a sailor and therefore he knew how important it was to get it right, peoples lives can depend on it, so he worked harder at it.

The forecasts are "predictions" using data supplied by the Met Office. It is up to each forecaster how to interpret the data.

The weather data 'interpreted' by the weather men is supplied by different organisations.  Radio 4 shipping forecast is from the met office direct but the BBC TV data is supplied by the met office and then interpreted by the BBC.  ITV use a different weather data supplier.
