The news is disturbing that so many homes are without electricity following recent storms. How are those unfortunate people managing? I live in the south-east and so far have been very fortunate in that my home has not been flooded and electricity has not failed - yet. This leads me to think how I would cope for days with no electricity. The least one would need is the means to boil a kettle for a hot drink and be able to fill a hot water bottle. Can anyone suggest a simple device for doing this?
If you want the smallest, Coldicote then I have it.
When I was a guide, many moons ago, we had to make a tripod of matches on an old penny and set fire to it. We then had to heat a thimble full of water over any flame we managed to make.......never had to use it since....☺
Lot of folk now using wood burning or multi fuel stoves but no good as a short term measure. The smallest bit of kit is a Tommy Cooker which uses solid meths. Cheap enough to throw away after a period of use
