I am always browsing amongst the books in these stores and am happy when I find a bestseller I haven't read for 50p! Bargain.

50p? you wouldnt get a hardback book round here for 50p. They are usually about £3. in our charity shops.
Not recently - other than books or antiques I don't buy second-hand - but many years ago I got a good condition second edition of Jane Eyre for 5p at a market. I've still got it.
£3 that's expensive, most go for max £1.50.

Not in our Heart Foundation shop. Everything is expensive in there.
I saw a Chanel handbag not so long ago and they wanted £10. I did not buy it as it was not my style.

Lots of fakes among stuff sold as 'designer'. A genuine second-hand Chanel bag would cost a lot more than £10.
I bought an oak unit some weeks back as it had shelves and I have a lot of books that need putting away. It's lovely with a glass front and looks really good in the front room. Only £30 and not a mark on it ! I only ever buy books normally.
I agree about the Heart Foundation shops, they are the dearest charity shops. The cheapest is the RSPCA in my town.
I got a Hardy reel and flybox for £15 from a charity shop once. A nit battered but perfectly usable still.
It's very rare I can pick up a genuine bargain in them :-(

I pop into our local ones on a regular basis and whilst I inevitably buy 'something', it's hardly ever been a gem of a find.

I am often outraged at the silly prices they think they can command for designer gear, which at the end of the day is still 2nd hand regardless of what label it might come attached with!

And don't get me started on the Primark stuff which is more or less the same ruddy price it was originally for.

Last week, on my way to work, I saw some nice (ish) boots in the Sue Ryder shop popped in and nearly collapsed when I saw they were a tenner! A bleedin' tenner! I don't think so. The lady nicely pointed out that they were real leather- i refrained from pointing out that for a tenner second hand I wanted real gold ones AND for them to make my evening meals!

The cheapest charity shop in our town is the PDSA.
In our Charity shops they charge £2-3 for a paper back. There are not many bargains these days.

Some stuff in there is priced at more than they are new in the shops. When it's pointed out they say "well it is for Charity".

Question Author
I think generally its harder to pick up a real bargain in a charity shop nowadays as anything that is considered valuable they keep aside and go to an expert for valuation first.
I blame Mary Portas! Lol!
Question Author
£2 -£3 for a paperback book is even worse! If they put things out cheaper they would have more room for the new stuff which is always coming in..and they would have more customers..

Has anyone had any really good boot sales bargains?
Last year I snapped up a hideous looking wall clock at a local thrift store for $30. Why did I buy it if it was so ugly? Well, inside it was a German Westminster chime movement which costs $425!
Oh now car boots, I adore those but very rarely get to go to them as I usually work Sundays :-(

I did however, last summer, have a rare Sunday off and picked up this, well, not that one, but one exactly the same....

For 50p!

Why? Well I dunno, I just saw it, liked it and was hit with a wave of nostalgia, it does however look lovely on my sideboard :-)
It seems that the movement has gone up to $436 since last year: http://www.perrinwatchparts.com/product/5035.aspx
