I was around in 1963, I know what snow looks like! Just tell me it's snowing, I'll understand, you don't have to show me someone standing out in it for me to know what 'It's snowing ...' actually means!!!

andy, were you watching it on TV in 1963? TV needs visuals. These reports get picked up in other countries; but how are you going to sell a report on UK winter snow to (say) Dubai TV if it's only people sitting round a table indoors?
As far as the Express piece goes, the headline seems over the top; they appear to have produced just two forecasters saying the weather will be colder than usual. And they may well be right, we won't know till it's over; meantime, being prepared for the worst is a pretty sensible suggestion for this time of year.
