Northern Lights

Should be quite spectacular if the Skies remain clear as it is normally not seen in Britain.
I have seen the Northern Lights a couple of times but that was in Canada.
Will keep my eyes peeled tonight just in case.

I saw them over Salisbury Plain about 22 yrs ago, it was pretty spooky as I had no idea what these green vertical lights were in the sky.

I thought there was a cycle of them appearing every so often in the UK?

Apparently rather large Solar Flares will also possibly cause problems with TV Reception etc, hopefully not but if the lights are visible tonight it should be quite spooky and beautiful.

If the skies are clear salla, you should start to see them as soon as it gets dark.
It is worth seeing and can be spectacular. Will be watching out for them myself.

Went out twice between 19.30-22.30 but saw nothing after all. However it was fairly cloudy, but was wondering if anyone else was lucky enough to have seen the lights ??

On the radio this morning they said even if it was clear you'd have to be as far north as N Scotland to see them - is this not true?

The sun has an activity cycle of 11 years which increases the odds of seein them. But this is a particularly strong flare

Not sure about that prudie, if the skies were clear then I would have thought most people would have seen something even if they lived much further South.
There is unusual Sun activity this year hence the reason the Lights are visible in UK.

I'd love to see the lights before I'm put into my pine box, but I don't know I'll ever get around to doing something about it.

As for sights in the skies over the UK, in my experience a sky sufficiently cloudless (and rainless) is so rare as to be a big disappointment the vast majority of the time. Usually all anticipation and then let-down.

Bums......i'm as far south as you can get without getting wet and playing footsie with the French.

Bet it'll be a great sight, if a clear night up north. :0)

Have not read any reports today on the News etc as to whether anyone has seen the lights in the UK ! They are pretty spooky and spectacular, so hopefully someone will be lucky enough.

I've really got to see them one day.. but I'd rather my first time be the real deal, you know surrounded by snowy mountains and a massive lake. That's the dream anyway, my big idea is to go see them with my lass in a few years and pop the question!

Once your lass saw the lights paul, she would only say YES to you. Northern Scandinavia or Canada would be a good place to go.
They have them in the Southern Hemisphere as well but have not seen them there,
