Book Title?

I remember reading a children's book when I was young about a boy who was a talented painter and found a magic brush. If he ever finished a painting, it would come alive with the last stroke and ususally caused trouble so he never did it. One day he had to paint a picture for the king and as he was finishing, somebody bumped into him, causing him to finish the painting properly and it came alive.

Does this ring a bell with anyone, and if so whats it called?

The story has been told by quite a few authors as its based on an old folk tale.

Normaly the person paints food etc for her family which is ok, but then the evil king etc hears of it and wants her to paint gold etc.
