I can't give you any tips then, Barsel...... .other than I'm a calm person.....I don't worry, get angry, fret or stress..... and I have a humorous, if strange, outlook on life..... Most of my friends are around my age.....65 up to 75.......All but the 75 year old and I have never smoked..... and they drink very little or nothing at all..... I smoked...

Hi Barsel, not too sure about long life, genetics can play a part in that. Good health? .. definitely some exercise, walking in my case. I don't do stress if it's up to me, so staying out of stressful situations is good for me. I think as you get older you find it easier to say no to things rather than yes, when really you don't want to do it in the first place.

I smoked lots......drink a glass of red most days and two or three when I go out....I don't do the dedicated exercises the others do and my good diet is more by accident than down to any effort on my part.....
Now, we may not live as long as the others......who can say.....but the 75 year old and I are fitter, stronger, have much more energy and have far fewer health problems than the others......
It seems unfair......and I can't explain it.....
Genes?.......My father died young as do many of my family members on his side....
My mother on the other hand has never had a day's illness......no aches or pains......never had a cold or cough.....
She's reached 92 with a fit body......but a mind lost for about ten years now in Alzheimer's.....she was still cycling when she couldn't remember what day it was.....
So, though I'd like to live long and healthily, the length of my life isn't as important as how I live it and so far I'm lucky enough to be living it in very good health.....and it has to be down to luck........x

Hi Gness //So, though I'd like to live long and healthily, the length of my life isn't as important as how I live it//
Well said and very true.I suppose we could give up drinking and smoking, do our exercises and eat healthily but we never know what's round the corner as you have found out with your own parents. So there is no 'magic pill' but while we are able to live a fairly healthy, happy life, then we should count our blessings.xx
