a couple of months back i received a letter from the DVLA, telling me i needed to renew my photocard license by a certain date.

however that date is only 8 years 4 months after issue - not 10 ...?

it is the date written on my current driving license though

why would they have only issued the license for only 8 years ?

is this an error?

shall i mention it to them and extend this one?

in all it will cost me around £28 to renew it - so i'd rather it last as long as it should

thanks

I'm confused.

You should only need to renew your licence after 10 years (which should only cost you £14, not £28) or when you reach 70. (That renewal is free, as are the ones every three years after that).

Is your age relevant here?
That's what I'm thinking. Are you coming up to 70?
I'm pretty sure joko's nothing like 70. Any other reason the licence might not have extended 10 years when she got it? I can't think of any, other than a computer glitch (aka "error in front of screen").

I'd ring them and ask what's up.
what are the dates in 4a and 4b?

the dates are from 4-7-07 to 15-11-15 ... so only 8 years - the dates
seem rather random dont they ...

it is my first license

im 43

the cost was more, because i have no passport so i cant do it online, so i need to buy new new photos and need to get it done at a participating post office - and the nearest one will cost me to get there

i have just realised i can post it though, which is £17 but i still need photos, so that will still cost another £4-5 or so i think.

thanks
the dates on my license are 01/05/07 - 13/12/15 = 8 years...

however my original was nicked and this is the replacement, the issue date changed but not the end date
Question Author
i have rung them - it seems it dates from the date they get the photo in their system, which was first used on my provisional license, then used on my proper one.

thanks all
for what it's worth, I just took a selfie, adjusted it to the right size, photoshopped stray bits of hair out of the way, and sent it in. No problems and only the cost of the stamp.
When did your provisional licence finish as this may be the reason?
ok the picture cannot be more than 10 years old, so it must have been on the provisional. I suspect the 4a date on your provisional licence is Nov 2005.
Question Author
yes, as i say above, it is the date i provided the pic for the provisional

thanks

jno - yes thanks, thats what ive done
