Further to my previous thread. My laptop must be so old, I cant buy an emachinnes battery for it so I have now bought a compatible. How long do they normally last? I think my last one was around two or three years. Is that about right?

About right. It's important that when the battery is new, you charge it fully/ discharge it fully 2 or 3 times.

I bought one today and it was half charged so I have fully charged it. is that right? So now I wont charge it again until it gets really really low.. Yes?
Correct. Mine is about 50% at the moment. Hopefully in about 3 hours it will be discharged fully, then I shall connect to the charger again.
I have kept my acer 7540 fully charged for 6 years, so far it seems to be able to run for 2 hrs from fully charged.
