Getting rid of spiders

I have a problem with masses of spiders (each about 1cm long) that live under and around my decking, and that are giving me the heebie-geebies! I'm looking for suggestions on how to get rid of them in the most environmentally-friendly way possible - I know they help keep other pests down, but there are simply so many that they're really starting to freak me out!

Try encouraging birds into your garden - especially if you've seen the spidies on a thread (don't think about it too long!). Bluetits and small birds collect them for their babies.
