What is the chance of my getting my old (pink paper) driving licence back (which I've asked for) after having renewed it for a photo one? I would like to keep the old one just for sentimental reasons as I have my very old red cover licence of yrs ago...

It's illegal to have two driving licences so no chance at all.

I got my Photocard Licence when I saw they were promoting them with a 50% discount, wanted to keep my Paper Licence (also have the Red Cover one) so just told them I had lost it, so couldn't return it.
Tut tut, Balders,I'll never trust you again :-(

Dodgy Geezer, some would say!

I had to surrender mine ID so dint lie that I had lost it...ahem. Just wondered if anyone else had asked and recd theirs back when changing over to new photo card one.

Just a catch up on this one. Unexpectedly the DVLA returned my old licence (stamped with cancelled) with my new photo licence! Was pleased about that, thought I'd let you know.
