downloaded music in the charts

When I download a song (eg) from itunes, do I have to download the entire EP/single for it to be counted in the top 40 chart, or does it still count towards it if I download the song from album?
And in that case, can a song be in the top 40 without actually being released, simply because its a popular album track?
