Hi all. My 2 week old appears to have 2 teeth coming through (on the bottom, the 2 central teeth). This has astonished me. Is this uncommon?

hello Mats01-99, firstly congratulations on your new bundle of joy!! To have teeth so young is rare but quite normal, its usually the front two bottom teeth that appear at any age, although my little boy didn't get any teeth til he was 9 months old, now at 21 months old he's still growing them! i thought he'd never get any!.

I have read in books of babies being born with teeth, poor mummy if your baby is being breastfed! you will be amazed how long it will take for the teeth to grow once theyve popped out of the gums, it takes ages! I think you will probably find these teeth will be the only two your baby will have for quite few months now though.

I wish you all the happiness with your new baby, have fun and make sure you rest when you can x

(p.s i've found this website really useful to get tips and advice on problems- you'll use this a lot!!)

My little boy looked like his two front teeth were gonna come through at a very early age, he didn't actually get them till he was nearly one though.Doesn't necessarily mean they are gonna come through just yet because you can see where they are gonna be. Can you feel them? if so, then maybe they are ready. it does happen but it is quite unusual. keep us posted!
its not that uncommon, i was in hospital with a lady whose baby was born with one tooth!
my son was born with a tooth the midwife said it was a blister from sucking on his bottle only he was about 20 mins old and had not been feed she looked again and confirmed it was a tooth all the midwives on the ward came to have a look

My son's first teeth were through fully at six weeks old and he was definitely teething from about 2 weeks old. He had all his first teeth at a very early age and likewise all his adult teeth were through early too.

Both a pediatrition and a Dentist have told me quite seriously that children that get their teeth early are usually very intelligent and they are not quite sure of the reason why; but that is a definite link. So you may have a young Einstein on your hands!

Best wishes.
