Every year I send two calendars to friends in America. But this year, the cheaper sea mail, ie not Air Mail option doesn't appear to be available.

My local Post Office doesn't seem to know why...can anybody help here

Both calendars cost over £4 to send !

Perhaps reason is here Mikey:-
Surface mail - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_mail [edit]. On May 14th, 2007, the United States Postal Service eliminated international surface mail as part of its cost-cutting .

Thanks Danny, but I am sure that I was able to send the calendars by other-than Air Mail in the very recent past.
Update Mikey. According to the link below the last date for surface mail to USA was 13th October so maybe this is the reason.
is it because last posting date was Tuesday 13 October for Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa, USA?

I don't think its got anything to do with last posting dates. Surface Mail should have nothing to do with dates. I think the ruddy Royal Mail is just making a killing, now that they have been hived off to the lowest bidder.
I think it is now called economy and standard.

Well, when I asked about this at the Post Office, I was told it was Air Mail or nothing ! Dozy Dora behind the counter was about as much hep as a chocolate teapot.

I will have a look on the Royal Mail website tomorrow, when I have more time...thanks to everybody.
