Do Ladies Require A Dominant Man

When I say 'dominant' I dont mean bully, control freak or scumbag.
My mates brother is in bits after his partner of several years dumped him. He's one of the gentlest blokes you could meet. But he has come across to me as a bit of doormat at times, his partner says she wants something and he made sure she had it, he worshiped her. But the kicker is, she has dumped him saying that she's fed up of him being a wimp!!! The guy only ever tried to please her.

I noticed a similar thing in my last relationship towards the end, the more I caved in to my partners demands, the less I got back in return (respect, sex, affection etc) until it all went pear shaped and we split.

So, what is it with ladies? Do you want a guy that wants to please you or a guy that will put put his foot down occasionally (or even often)?
And as I said, I dont mean dominant to mean bully.
