Statins

An associate of mine has recently had a heart attack. When he was in hospital, he was told that his cholesterol measured at 7.5 three years ago. Shouldn't his GP have prescribed statins or advised him about lowering cholesterol or something? It just seems as though the heart attack could have been prevented. I can't find anything to say at what point a GP should intervene when they know about high cholesterol levels.

The prescribing of statins to prevent heart attacks is both contentious and controversial, being a matter of opinion amongst the medical profession and also depending upon other factors such as family history and the presence of diabetes and/or hypertension( high blood pressure).

Mainstream medics would have, might have, prescribed statins at that level of 7.2.

Another question to be answered.......is there a direct link between high cholesterol and heart attacks? Mainstream medics say..YES.
Now a study from Los Angeles University Hospital showed that 75% of patients seen in casualty with the diagnosis of heart attacks had NORMAL blood cholesterol levels.

So!!!! what do you think?

Now.....is there a direct relationship between high cholesterol and diet....debatable although mainstream medics say yes.......many studies dispute this.

Probably, but in my opinion not negligent in not advising your associate.
If the GP had done.........your associate may still have had a heart attack.

What would i have advised?.Probably to take statins........probably.
