Help - messed with registry and Windows has locked me out

In the last few days, I was getting error messages about windows not being able to find SSTQO.EXE when booting up. I went into the registry and removed all references to this file.

(When I did a google search, I got no information that suggested that this was a file that was required).

Today when I loaded up my PC (Windows XP), the windows desktop didn't load automatically and I was asked to log into my user account (except I have never set a password up). I have tried going into safe mode but the administrator account is also password protected.

I bought the PC second-hand so I have no idea what the administrator password is.

Any ideas on how I can log on to my PC? And yes I know how dumb I am to mess with the registry.

Have you tried a system restore to a date before you edited the registry
That file belongs to Winfixer. If you do get back in through System Restore (which will be infected too) I suggest seeking proper assistance at one of these forums.

I'd do a system restore if I could actually get Windows to load. At the moment, when I boot up, it just loads up the user password screen (the one you get when you log out of a user name) and won't let me in as I've never set up a password for my user name.
Try and boot up with a rescue disk, I'll post a site where you'll be able to download the files, then copy them onto a floppy disk and try booting up with that.

These ones work fine: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

I tried CTRL/ALT/DEL and that didn't work. Neither does safe mode as all it does is bring up the same log-in screen but with an administrator option as well (which also need a password I don't have)

Thanks Neildownx

I will try and get in touch with the person I bought the PC from. What I don't understand is that I am the only user on the PC and I never set up a password for my account so I can't work out why it is asking me for one (trying to type no password works for neither mine or the admin log in)
