Chinese Style Chicken And Sweetcorn Soup
14 Answers
Has anyone got a tried and tested recipe?
I've been looking up some recipes online but lots seem to be US versions and have creamed corn in them (don't know if you could even get that here?).
I'm looking for the type that you would get in a Chinese takeaway.

However I'll at least save you having to hunt for the recipe on the website:

Thanks everyone. I have had a thought in that we have a China Town here with Chinese Supermarkets so maybe I could get creamed corn in there, which could be easier. Bonus with the link one as it doesn't need it :) Should be able to get that all in my little Tesco, save maybe the ginger.
I will keep that in mind too DTC, not sure on the crab meat bit though, tried it in soup from the Chinese once and it was horrible but not sure it that was the crab or the Chinese. Is it like squid? I couldn't eat that in soup either though but calamari is ok. I remember a friend trying to tempt me with some octopus in Greek Town in Toronto but I just couldn't.
I do need to order, do it too piecemeal, evening to evening so little to carry, but can be fussy about picking stuff. I end up having to structure my shopping around if a heavier item is needed though which is rubbish.

Wrhansron, I love Knorr chicken noodle soup, the simmer one? Don't have it much now as a faff with kettle and pan but it is nice, I love sweetcorn so always have that in. Might thicken up a bit with some cornflour, maybe a bit more chicken as its a bit mean on that and OTT with the noodles :)
One thing is love to learn how to make myself is salt and pepper chicken but the recipes are quite faffy, and my local Chinese does it so well!

Cover and simmer a chicken carcass with some seasoning and a chicken stock cube (for extra flavour). When the carcass has cooked for at least 30 minutes you can remove the carcass and pick off all the meat and add to the stock. At this stage you can add a can of CREAMED sweet corn and heat through. To thicken the soup beat 1 or 2 eggs and dribble into the soup whilst stirring. Not only does this thicken it but it also adds texture. Delicious and very easy to do. My daughter-in-law is Chinese and when she comes to visit she often makes this and we all love it. You can use crab meat as an alternative but it needs to be fresh - this is ls very tasty. Gill
