Just out of curiosity, why do parents hire limousines for their kids etc when the last day of year 6? Is that when they have a prom? I was asked today what i will be doing for my child? I wasn't sure what to say.

Jackdaw, that's not true about the mortar boards. My son graduated from Warwick this year - definitely a "proper" university - and he wore a mortar board.

Phleb, I suppose some people hire limos as a kind of treat to "celebrate" the end of primary school. If your child's school is having a prom, you'd know about it by now. When you were asked what you were doing for your child, perhaps you could have said "I don't know yet. What are you doing?" To get some idea of what was going on.
we just left one school and then went to another at the beginning of the next term. now I know I had a deprived childhood. lol. just didn't think about it.
Same here LJ. No hype, no fuss just went to a different school.
I'm so glad we didn't have proms in my day. A normal school disco was enough. Fun if you like that kind of thing, but no pressure to dress up, hire limos and make a big occasion of it. When I think of proms I'm reminded of Carrie. What a nightmare!
Finished at one school then went to another. Got the bus there, not a limo or even a horse and cart. No fuss.
sounds like a nightmare nowadays.
That was a good film CJ. Cissy Spasseck(?) played the lead very well I thought.
my fren' has a big car
and is in demand for this service

we had no idea what it was all about
but apparently 11 y olds prom these days

( well it is better than taking droogz, getting pregnant or knocking old ladies over and stealing their purses )

so we indulged them

yeah in the 'pule ( Liverpool Uni ) they prance about in mortar boards for a day - I went as a hanger on in my fellow's gown ......
HEY !
spoiler warning - bad taste joke coming up in the French style

why doesnt one parent get their kid of any size but buxom would do
to jump out of the hired limo and shout ....

I am not a big girl - I am just wearing a suicide vest !

blimey that would make the night memorable

Well, i haven't heard anything about a prom, just over heard a show off mum with loads of cash boasting about a limo for her girl when she leaves in sept 2016. So, i was worried i haven't thought about anything like that. I will figure it out nearer the time, but will not go showing off all extravagant, as cannot afford limos etc. I am just about trying to keep the house afloat and feed the kids and fuel the car right now lol
