Facebook - Do You Have A Say In What They Can Display?
14 Answers
Without requesting it, my eBay account has been linked to my husband's FaceBook account and items I've listed for sale on eBay, together with a link to my eBay page, are appearing on my husband's News Feed and also in the Sponsored Ads.
I don't want this and neither does he but we seem unable to stop it. eBay have confirmed that FaceBook does not have permission to do it, but requests for them to stop are met with an automated reply, basically just thanking us for contacting them and saying feedback is important.
Aside from deleting the FB account, is there any other way to stop it? Are FaceBook entitled to do it because eBay is in the public domain? Anyone else had this problem please?

So if that's the case Facebook and Ebay aren't connected, you're just seeing adverts - you know when you visit an online shop, then later you might see an advert for that shop when you're looking on other websites? That might be it.

Thanks for replies, both.
Ed, FB and eBay are definitely linked, the sponsored ad is showing my latest listing on eBay - the same picture that is showing in the News Feed, and the News Feed picture, which has a link to my eBay account, is showing a couple of 'likes' from FB friends (who happen to be family members).
Retro, I do hope you're right but it seems really strange that the same eBay listing is being shown on both parts of FB. :o/

The strange thing is, neither my husband nor I are being given the opportunity to select 'share with FaceBook friends' on our eBay settings - there's nothing at all like this on our settings. I did try to ask eBay about this, unfortunately I couldn't get a logical answer, however eBay did confirm that neither of us have agreed to 'share with friends'.
Also, our eBay accounts are both separate accounts (but we use the same Paypal account) - but how can MY eBay activity be linked to HIS FaceBook account? It doesn't seem to make any sense at all. The only connection is that we both use Paypal to pay or receive payment on eBay.

I only use FB for family and close friends and use an ad blocker - I took the ad blocker off last night for a short while and was amazed at the stuff that was coming up -I'd been looking for Xmas presents on Amazon and all my browsing history was up on FB with suggestions for other items. Big Brother id definitely watching everyone these days!
Retro, my OH only uses it for family and very close friends too. He has a very short 'friends' list, that's why it was embarrassing for us (I sell girly things on eBay - not the sort of things he wanted showing up on his FB page).
I'm still totally puzzled as to why my account got connected to his. I'll probably never know.

Same contacts maybe? Mine was set up with a different name and email address and incorrect phone number with no personal details. The only friends on there are ABers, but I constantly got suggestions for people I know in real

Not necessarily, it's more Victorian having to change to fit in. It's a mental health issue. Nobody can ever identify that they are in the wrong body. It's impossible to know that. It seems to come down to superficial things- preferring female company, girls toys, clothes, etc. It would be better for people just to be accepted and not feel they have to change over to fit in. life. The only link I could work out, is it was finding contacts on my phone.

Just in case anyone is interested, my OH has just had a response from FB...
"Thank you for letting us know about a problem you experienced. Your report helped us identify an issue that should now be resolved. If you have a problem again, please submit another report. Sorry for the inconvenience".
Probably an automated reply, but the link to my eBay listings have gone, I'm pleased to say. I just hope they don't start up again.
Thanks for replies, all.
