I have to make a payment to a business no later that 16 December. At present it charges 2% if I pay by credit card.
http://www.theguardian.com/money/2015/jul/27/cap-on-card-fees-retailers suggests that if I wait until 9 December I should be charged a maximum of 0.3%.
That said, there doesn't seem to be much out in the media to say that this is going to happen.
Does anyone know the correct position , please?

Hmm -it looks as if the retailer will pay 0.3% but is not forced to charge the consumer ie me 0.3% so could still charge 2%
You could contact them and ask whether, in light of the new cap on fees, they have any plans to drop their 2% charge to the customer. Point out that it is no longer necessary and poor practice in the industry.
Shops and businesses are currently charged 0.8% credit card fees so I wouldn't expect any cost to the consumer to drop by more than .5%, if that.
hc4361 The amount charged to the merchant is not 0.8% as you state, but varies for each merchant, dependent on many factors.
It averages out at .8%
How can you know that ?
