How can companies such as Animed and Petdrugs online, sell this product so cheaply? Ar they safe to use? They are over £20 cheaper than the vet, including buying a prescription...

I think the way to look at it is: the vet is £20 more expensive, how can they justify that?

When you buy from a vet you are not just buy a product, you are buying their time, training, professional insurance, surgery running costs and the people they employ. They have to pay more when they purchase the product because they can’t run out so their suppliers charge them more. When you buy online, the overheads are less and also the supplier can look around for the cheapest supplier they can find because its not essential for them to keep a supply in stock. My vets will often ask when i but a non prescription product, whether I need it quickly and if I say no, they will tell me where to get it cheaper online or from a shop.

Is not so much that firms like Animed are cheap; it's more that most vets are ruddy expensive! (Two examples I've noticed in the last week of prices at my local vets: Bags of 'Dreamies', which are usually on offer at £1 in Asda, Tesco or even the Co-op, are priced at £1.67 at the vets. Plastic pet beds, similar to those sold in Poundstretcher for £2.99 , cost £9.92 at the vets).

Animed (which is based up the road from me) is a well-respected and reliable firm, with nearly 40,000 reviews on TrustPilot (scoring 9.6 out of 10):

There's no reason not to use their services.

However if you'd prefer to buy over the counter (without paying the high prices that your vet charges), look no further than the pharmacy at your Asda, where they sell Adocate and other pet treatments at reasonable prices.

On the subject of vets fees my sister paid nearly £50.00 her poodles booster injections.My vet charged just under £40.00 for Max's boosters AND his kennel cough.

On the subject of vaccinations how many of you know the current manufacturers recommendations for vaccination protocoIs? Most are every three years, not annuaIIy and even the ones that are annuaI are not recommended unIess you are in an area where there is a high incidence of those diseases. Some are IifeIong and do not need boosters! I have not vaccinated an aduIt dog for over 30 years. If you are worried you can have a titre test done to see the IeveI of immunity your dog has against different conditions.

That's ok lankeela provided you don't have to kennel your dog at any time.Kennels insist that boosters etc are up to date as a condition of accepting any bookings.
