They.... the experts, do say that constantly wearing heels shortens the achilles heel.... i may agree with that slightly. My uniform used to be 4 inch heels, and i must admit going into flatties was a little strange. On saying that though, those 4 inchers did damage the backs of my knees for a while, from the posture we were in. (I worked in a casino), and my calves ached very badly for a while till i got used to it.
The force on the feet in general can cause bunions, of which i gratefully escaped, touch wood!!!
B. :-)
beryllium is indeed correct, there are many parts to the foot and the constant wearing of the same type of footwear be it stilettos or hobnailed boots will result in undo wear on tear on the pressure points of the foot, which are, from heel to toe: the Achilles tendon, the soft base of the heel, the bridge of the foot, the most vulnerable part of any foot, the shallow boned area of the top of the foot, the breadth of the foot where bunions can start to erupt if ill fitting and poor quality footwear is consistently used.
Every foot is different and like a fingerprint, in that they have unique shape and form, fitting is very rarely an option in adults and this is the initial problem. Poorer quality plastic shoes may last a lifetime, but the quality leather foorwear, though not as long lasting, is made to mould to the individual walking action and so reduce any risk of injury, deformity or restriction in walking comfort.
The bridge of the foot in particular can vary from person to person, the wearing of a high stilletoe that is a wrong fit on a shallow arch is just as harmful as wearing no shoes at all. The more dramatic the bridge of a shoe, the deeper the arch needs to be to enable the wearer to walk comfortably and safely.
Stilettos are the greatest cause of injury, damage and disfigurement known in footwear but this is primarily because the wearer has failed to seek expert advice on what type of incline suits their particular bridge.
That was a fantastic bit of info Dot!!!
