Sim Free Mobiles

What is meant by sim free? Does it mean that you don't need a sim at all which to me makes no sense at all or is it the same as an unlocked phone ?

It means that you have to provide your own SIM. It'll probably be unlocked but not necessarily so.

Sim free means you JUST buy the phone, no sim or contract.

However even a sim free phone could still be locked to one provider (Vodafone sell a sim free phone that is locked to Vodafone)

But you have to have a sim to make calls.

You can use a phone without a sim if you want to just use it on wi fi like a "tablet", but it wont have a phone number and cant make calls.
