My mum used to say all the time - "The measure you give, the measure you get", however, being deaf - I always thought she was saying "The misery you give, the misery you get" - but now I think both sayings are true.

Your version leaves out the possibility of giving and getting joy and love though....

that's correct woofie - but do know some people that mine would be very applicable.
Karma belief. Or maybe more acceptably a sort of 'you reap what you sow'.

For the most part, probably wishful thinking.
