My dad, who has dementia often uses the wrong words for various things. I never correct him but gently use thecorrect word in the ensuing conversation and he picks it up and corrects himself.

Today, however, I had difficulty in accepting what he said.

Scenario.
I helped dad out of the car into his wheelchair. As he sat down, he winced in pain.
Me, 'Are you ok, Dad?'
Dad, 'No!
Me, 'What's the matter?'
Dad, ' I've trapped my...............

Tentacles!'

What would you have done?

I laughed 'til I cried. Poor man!

Yes Tony as he doesn't have a land line, OH collected the phone and took it to him, but a big thank you to that lady and the bloke in the O2 shop who took the time to find the owner
Tilly,
Not quiet the same scenario but during the last few days of my fathers life he seemed to think I was a duck. He kept referring to me as 'Drake'. He seemed to recognise my 2 sisters by name as well as my mum but whenever I went near him, he always reffered to me as 'Drake'...."make me a cup of tea Drake" "Turn my pillow Drake" etc
Never worked it out.

Well, Nailit as you and I know. 'Duck' is a term of endearment in Stoke. He just used the correct word for a male 'duck'. No problem.
Never thought of it that way Tills ;-)
