My ten year old Westie has developed this very suddenly .... At the moment it's anti-inflammatories and rest (???). Maybe surgery down the track...

Could you share any experiences you've had please ....any additives to his diet ie fish oil, etc,...could the leg be strapped to keep the kneecap in place...and if you went down the surgery road, how successful was this ?

I know there's stacks on google, I'm still wading but hearing from other owners would really help, thanks.

Thanks, woof, that might be the nudge i need to get into it !
As you say, 'there's stacks on Google' but I hope that you'll allow me to make small suggestion to help you to find what you're looking for:

If you google 'forum dog luxating patella' (rather than just 'dog luxating patella') you'll find loads of posts from dog owners who've been in a similar situation to you. Here are just a couple:

and
http://www.dogster.com/forums/Dog_Health/thread/741236
(They're fairly random selections; you'll probably find more appropriate posts if you search for yourself).

Thanks Chris, that's very helpful I imagine I'll find out all i need there :))
AII the dogs I have known who had surgery have been fine afterwards, provided that the owner foIIows the instructions for recovery. Any other treatment is IikeIy to resuIt in a recurrence of the probIem and even cause the other Ieg to be affected if the dog is putting extra weight on it.
