Can't believe all the fuss and OTT media coverage about a Brit being an astronaut

IMO space exploration is the biggest waste of (astronomical sums of) money ever
He`s a British pioneer Joeluke - that`s a good thing.
He may be the first on the ISS but he ain't the first astro...that award goes to a woman, Sharman?
Helen Sharman. She was interviewed on TV today and she was quite nervous because she knew how Tim was feeling
she was on the BBC2 programme at 7pm
She was working at Mars Inc, the same time as me. Great woman. First Brit in space

///He`s a British pioneer Joeluke - that`s a good thing.///

Er, No,

Dr Helen Patricia Sharman OBE FRSC (born 30 May 1963), is a British chemist who became the *first Briton in space* and the first woman to visit the Mir space station

And there's nothing I can do

Though I'm past one hundred thousand A1 miles
I'm feeling very still

Far above wendilla's Moon
Planet AB is blue
And there's nothing even Gromit can do."

So what does the ISS actually do to justify the billions it costs?
Inspires shyyte AB poetry, joeluke, how did I miss including you....?
Helen Sharman spent 8 days in space. She was a pioneer but so is Tim Peake
It inspires kids to study science and maths. Ok, it might cost billions to to send people into space, but the money doesn't disappear into a black hole. Lots of people are employed and then spend their money on other things because of these types of explorations.
I think it's amazing.
you name it, joeluke, crystallography, mineralogy, materials, space science, protection of the Earth, radiation, magnetism, climatology, global mapping, environment....shall I go on, never mind the sustainability of man to exist in space or other alien planet or moon environments....never mind bringing the major nations together as one through science and a common purpose, as Antarctica does as well.....
There's loads of things in everyday use that have come out of the space programs, it's just that people don't realise it, many artificlal limbs for instance now use technology that was developed for the robotic arms used in space,LED lights and freeze dried food, and many of the advances in fire fighting are just a few that come to mind.
Good points, DTC and paddywak.
