I live in Jersey and they have something very similar to an Abalone callerd an Ormer. Its only found in the Channel Islands I undertand and is considered a delicace.
I dont eat shellfish myself so have never tried it, but I know people who have and they rave about them.
They are fairly expensive, a pound or two each, but you could always try one of them as an alternative.
I'm assuming that they ship them to the UK, although as I say they are fairly rare and are not commercially fished but gathered by enthusiats after a high tide looking in the rocks and sometimes even by sailing out to the small group of islands called the Minquiers which are almost uninhabited.
Well, i'm waffling now, so I'll leave it at that.
