this isnt a wind up... we have a knife that "clover" butter/margerine wont stick to. you can take a scoop of the butter on the blade and it will fall off. it leaves very little residue on the blade and wont stick to the blade even when used for spreading.

if i were to use one of the other knives, it reacts as you would expect. picks the butter up (without sliding off) and spreads no problem.

all the washing up is done in a dishwasher, so this knife isnt getting any special treatment.

any ideas ? thanks in advance.

some sort of coating, or highly polished or something. things stick to stuff when there are very small bumps and pits on the surface that you can't see. smooth out these, and things slide off it much more easily.

the same principle is used for the stuff you can buy for your car windscreen to make the rain slide off it.
If I could find a similar knife for slicing cheese, I'd be thrilled to bits.

dont think this one is coated. its just a regular stainless steel knife ! its been dish washed 100`s of times and still reacts the same with butter.

i worked with steel for a long time (not stainless) and found steel to be sticky, in a working sence.

probably beacuse it wasn't smooth. is this knife shiny? like, noticebly shinier than your other knives?
