Nexus 7 Freezing

This problem has appeared in the past few days. I can't unlock the screen,nor turn off. It can freeze for ten minutes,then suddenly return to normal. It's a 2013 model...about 6 months old.

First link....I've not even updated to lollipop. There were so many updates available/required when I bought it...I never installed them all. I have to check but I think the next update that I've downloaded but not installed is 4.4.4.

Second link...I read that earlier...and the soft reset *seems* to work...but it takes several frustrating attempts.
