Actually I think Larkin's work is always worth ready, but it doesn't depart from the fact that he was a miserable beggar !

I think his time as a uni librarian here in Belfast left its mark on him. He loved jazz and was a great friend of Kingsley Amis so maybe the public persona was cultivated.
