OK, now I'm seriously cross! On 24th October, I sold my old car, a Yaris, TO and bought a Mini FROM the same person. There was about ten months tax on the Yaris. All paperwork was completed by me AND the other chap, and I duly received the new log book. I haven't had my refund from the Yaris, so today I phoned DVLA only for them to tell me to write to them. Apparently, the chap has since sold the Yaris on again and so now his name and address doesn't match the old registration!!! DVLA say they therefore can't do anything until I write to them. Why on earth didn't they inform me of this problem? They said they couldn't give me any information because of data protection! I didn't want any information about anybody; I just want my money back! Grrrr

Similar problem here. My FIL died in September and his car was sold to his ex daughter-in-law. Paperwork was filled in and sent off in late September. Phoned DVLA on 1st December and was told they would send refund in 4 - 6 weeks...still waiting!
