Possible Problem With Kindle
8 Answers
Hi folks, had a Kindle for some time and am enjoying using it. However, turned it on this morning and there's a light grey horizontal band right across the screen from left to right, it's about an inch thick. I have been charging it up since seeing this grey band, but it doesn't seem to be going away. Is the Kindle conking out? Just wondered if someone can help, please .... Thankfully, I've got all my Kindle books on the Kindle app on my Ipad, but I still love the kindle. hope someone can help, Chox.

Check that your Kindle is fully charged. Plug it into the charger and wait for the indicator light to turn green. Once it's green, unplug it from the charger.
Now, hold the power button in the "on" position for 20 seconds ... then release.
Be patient and watch it. The screen may flicker, but your Kindle will eventually reboot itself .. it may take a minute or so.
When it has rebooted, it should be ok.

My kindle did this - it was one of the original ones. Gradually the fuzzy line (it looked like the printer does when it's running out of ink) got wider and wider until the whole screen was obscured. There was nothing we could do (we contacted the helpline) so it had to go to the great library in the sky.
Thanks folks, advice very helpful. I will charge the kindle again when I get home tonight, and see what happens, and at the same time, will contact Amazon and ask them. But just one question, if I have to ditch the Kindle (and I've had it quite a few years now), what about all the books that I've got on it. If I buy a new Kindle, will they automatically rock up on the new one, or will they all disappear? Thanks. Chox.
Hi folks, many thanks for all your advice and suggestions, which were all taken on board and much appreciated. I've now been in touch with Amazon (kindle experts) and will be exchanging my old (now defunct) Kindle for a new one ....can't believe how many models there are now, and how much they have come down in price. So that's on its way to me as we speak, and I will be sending the old one back via an Amazon collection point in the very near future, once they send me the return label. So free postage all round. And a very happy bunny again. Cheers for everything, Chox.
