as a direct quote from the girl
she wasnt really a translator because she was from the chinese MI5
I share the same surname as the then head of MI5 or 6 or 7 or 8n1/2
You mean my surname really is Peter Em - yeah well sort of....
and she was stuck with me for two weeks after I mentioned my father had been taught by the said Raymond Dart and she knew enough of the Real Em to know he had never attended Witswatersrand ....
and I heard her say in Mandarin to the driver - did you understand what he's just said ?
yeah a Beijing taxi driver who speaks fluent English .....

Peter Pedant (an astutely named Monika) You are creating obfuscation and confusion by the reduction of examples of smaller and smaller groupings within an overall 'culture', such as Chinese - where do you want to end - with each village?
It is perfectly feasible to say "The Chinese culture contains many diverse religions and social groupings, such as; ....................."
These separate groups, when amalgamated form a cohesive and understandable identity, and differentiate them from say, a Scandinavian culture.

I am including bits of a whole enchilada as suggested by another contributor in a spontaneous and informative way that is easy to understand and relevant
as for Estelle I dont think the poor thang realised that culture had an academic specific meaning in anthropology - well she does now
as for Uighurs
https:/ /en.wik ipedia. org/wik i/Uyghu rs
they are one of 55 minorities
oo look no 6 in the wiki article is .... culture
there are apparently eleven million Uigurs
and anyway Khandro if there arent any neolithic people around now - does that mean there is nt a neolithic culture ?

Apart from your patronising the OP, your knowledge of anthropology is about as relevant to culture, as my knowledge of the carburettor is to the modern motor car. In other words, it's not much use at all.

j. ^^ I agree; it probably doesn't exist, it's such a portmanteau word (though we kinda know what it means). British? well, we are a different culture to the Victorians and they were it turn different from the Elizabethans.
When you've got pilots in the Papua New Guinea air force flying fighter jets, whose fathers used stone axes, Massai warriors with cell phones, a definition gets difficult.
The supreme qualities Field Marshal von Moltke looked for in his officers was Intelligence and laziness; "I make them my Commanders because they make the right decisions and find the easiest way to accomplish the mission".
So Estelle, if you want to demonstrate these qualities you could just say, "There's no such thing!" and depending on how good your teacher is, you'll either get a first or a fail. :0)
